Take Heed – Part 1

Take heed! This small statement tells us to listen, and give our full attention to the warnings written. In the King James Bible, there are 65 take heed verses. Let's examine these warnings:

Genesis 31:24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad. Genesis 31:29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or badThe warning here is to remain neutral in times of conflict.

Exodus 10:28 And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die. The warning here is to let God deal with those who are ill-tempered. 

Exodus 19:12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: The warning here teaches us to respect boundaries - especially when it comes to the Holiness of God; He is so Holy, we cannot see Him (in the flesh) and live.

Exodus 34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: The warning here teaches us to refrain from entering into an agreement that you will later regret.

Numbers 23:12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the Lord hath put in my mouth? This teaches us to speak boldly what God lays on our hearts. 

Deuteronomy 2:4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: This warns us to refrain from intimidating others.

Deuteronomy 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons; We are taught here to keep-current what God has done for us in our hearts by the testimony of our hearts.

Deuteronomy 4:15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: The warning here teaches us to listen to the voice of God rather than man.

Deuteronomy 4:23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the Lord thy God hath forbidden thee. The warning here teaches us to serve God continually.

Deuteronomy 11:16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; The warning here teaches us to worship God only!

Deuteronomy 12:13 Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest: The warning here teaches us that we need to have a special place for our time of prayer and offering. 

Deuteronomy 12:19 Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest upon the earth. The warning here teaches us to not turn our backs on those God placed around us.

Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. The warning here tells us to refrain from being contaminated by the sinful lifestyle of others.

Deuteronomy 24:8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. The warning here teaches us to observe the situation continually and to do only what is ultimately instructed by God.

Deuteronomy 27:9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. This teaches us to recognize that we belong to the LORD and to conduct ourselves accordingly.

Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. This warning tells us to Love the LORD and to put-and-keep God first in our lives.

Joshua 23:11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God. This warning tells us to Love the LORD; Our love for God keeps worldly love (lusts) out of our lives.

1 Samuel 19:2 But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself: This warning shows us that as we abide in Christ, we escape the snares of the world.

1 Kings 2:4 that the Lord may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel. This warning tells us to walk in truth with all our heart and soul.

1 Kings 8:25 Therefore now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me. This teaches us the importance of teaching our children how to abide in Christ.

1 Chronicles 22:13 Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the Lord charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. This warning tells us to observe and obey God’s Commandments.

1 Chronicles 28:10 Take heed now; for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it. This teaches us to obey God and be strong to fulfill what He requires of us.

2 Chronicles 6:16 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me. This exhorts us to teach our children the importance and the benefits of walking In the Law of the LORD.

2 Chronicles 19:6 and said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. This warns us to refrain from passing judgment.

2 Chronicles 19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts. This exhorts us to fear the LORD, for He is Holy and he accepts nothing but our obedience to Him.

2 Chronicles 33:8 neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. This (again) exhorts us to obey God’s Commandments.
