Take Heed (Part 1)
Take Heed – Part 1
Take heed! This small statement tells us to listen, and give our
full attention to the warnings written. In the King James Bible, there are 65
take heed verses. Let's examine these warnings:
Genesis 31:24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad. Genesis 31:29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad. The warning here is to remain neutral in times of conflict.
Exodus 10:28 And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take
heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest
my face thou shalt die. The warning here is to let God deal with those who are
ill-tempered.
Exodus 19:12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round
about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not
up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount
shall be surely put to death: The warning here teaches us
to respect boundaries - especially when it comes to the Holiness of God; He is
so Holy, we cannot see Him (in the flesh) and live.
Exodus 34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest
thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest
it be for a snare in the midst of thee: The
warning here teaches us to refrain from entering into an agreement that you
will later regret.
Numbers 23:12 And he answered and said, Must I not take
heed to speak that which the Lord hath put in my mouth? This teaches us to speak boldly what God lays on our
hearts.
Deuteronomy 2:4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to
pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in
Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto
yourselves therefore: This warns us to refrain from
intimidating others.
Deuteronomy 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul
diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest
they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons,
and thy sons’ sons; We are taught here to
keep-current what God has done for us in our hearts by the testimony of our
hearts.
Deuteronomy
4:15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no
manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of
the midst of the fire: The warning here teaches us to listen to the voice of God
rather than man.
Deuteronomy 4:23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye
forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make you
a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the Lord thy God hath
forbidden thee. The

them; The warning here teaches us to worship God only!

forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest upon the earth. The warning here teaches us to not
turn our backs on those God placed around us.
Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be
not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee;
and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve
their gods? even so will I do likewise. The warning here tells us to refrain from being contaminated by
the sinful lifestyle of others.
Deuteronomy 24:8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy,
that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the
Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. The warning here teaches us to
observe the situation continually and to do only what is ultimately instructed
by God.
Deuteronomy 27:9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto
all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day
thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. This teaches us to recognize that we belong to the LORD and to
conduct ourselves accordingly.
Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment
and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord
your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to
cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. This warning tells us to Love the
LORD and to put-and-keep God first in our lives.
Joshua 23:11 Take good heed therefore unto
yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God. This warning tells us to Love the LORD; Our love for God keeps
worldly love (lusts) out of our lives.
1 Samuel 19:2 But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and
Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now
therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning,
and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself: This warning shows us that as we abide in Christ, we escape the
snares of the world.
1 Kings 2:4 that the Lord may continue his word which he spake
concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to
walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there
shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel. This warning tells us to walk in truth with all our heart and
soul.
1 Kings 8:25 Therefore now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy
servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail
thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before
me. This teaches us the
importance of teaching our children how to abide in Christ.
1 Chronicles 22:13 Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to
fulfil the statutes and judgments which the Lord charged Moses with concerning
Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. This warning tells us to observe and obey God’s Commandments.
1 Chronicles 28:10 Take heed now; for the Lord hath
chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it. This teaches us to obey God and be strong to fulfill what He
requires of us.
2 Chronicles 6:16 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with
thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There
shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so
that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as
thou hast walked before me. This exhorts us to teach our
children the importance and the benefits of walking In the Law of the LORD.

what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the
judgment. This warns us to refrain from
passing judgment.

you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord
our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

obedience to Him.
2 Chronicles 33:8 neither will I any more remove the foot of
Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that
they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them,
according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of
Moses. This (again) exhorts us to obey God’s
Commandments.
